Welcome to beautiful Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, land of the Inuinnait on Victoria Island. It is spring time weather up here and signs of snow melting and the snow buntings are back chirping away, making us feel so happy that warmer weather is back.
During the past few weeks many restrictions have been lifted from the pandemic. Many public areas such as restaurants and many public places are now opening back to 100 per cent capacity. A few positive cases are still happening, residents are wearing masks, hand sanitizers and wiping cloths are still being used at the public places such as the stores, airport and more places. It is good to keep cleansing our hands and wiping down your surroundings.
It is that time of the year when the community of Cambridge Bay celebrates the return of spring with the annual spring carnival. This year the 2022 Omingmak Frolics will be held May 13 to 23, 2022.
On May 13 the Frolics will open with a $20,000 radio bingo. The next day will have a poker rally held as well as the annual Frolics Bazaar at the high school from 12 to 4 p.m. May 16 to 19 the corporate challenge and children’s games will be held at the baseball diamond, as well as snowmobile races in the evenings starting May 17. On May 19 the Frolics’ King and Queen will be crowned from 7 to 7:30 p.m. and then a talent show is planned for the rest of the night.
Fishing derbies and seal hunts will be held all day May 19 to 22. Closing ceremonies will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 23 outside the art studio. Of course there are plenty more events planned and you should look at the beautifully done, colorful and fun schedule that has been made by the Recreation department at the hamlet. It is available online and posted on Facebook.

We would like to thank the Recreation department for working so hard to get the frolics back on after a 2 year cancellation due to the pandemic. Quana to Melissa and Tracy, and to the volunteers who will work hard during the frolics and to the sponsors. See you at the Frolics everyone. It will be nice to see the bazaar back on with many beautiful crafts and gifts to buy, a community feast, a lively group of square dancers, good music and friends and family to see.
